Lexus LF-LC Finally Makes its Appearance
The much-rumored Lexus LF-LC as finally made its appearance - and it's been worth the wait. Any fan of exotic sports cars must have been looking forward to finally seeing the company's entry into the high-performance 2+2 coupe sector and the Lexus LF-LC doesn't disappoint. The edgy good looks of the front - in some ways reminiscent of a stealth fighter - blend cleverly into an overall curvaceous and sultry whole. At the back the jet theme continues with rear light clusters that remind you of afterburners. In fact everywhere you look the LF-LC suggests power and precision. After building a reputation for extremely effective but perhaps slightly uninspiring executive saloons, the company's avowed intention to hit the performance coupe market with something seriously worthy of the driving enthusiasts' consideration seems to be realized with the enticing LF-LC. Will this beautiful concept make it into production? They're certainly giving out all the right signals. Power in the Lexus LF-LC comes from a hybrid system, something they already have considerable experience of producing. Many of the design aspects (developed at their Calty studios in Newport Beach, California) may be relatively new to a Lexus but the company is known for it's mastery of technology so there are few barriers to most of the LF-LC concepts hitting the streets.
Inside, there are gadgets galore, with touch-sensitive information screens and ergonomic controls that don't require the driver to change line of sight. Although the show car's leather, suede and polished wood interior is a bit outlandish in places and not all the ideas would make it to a road car, the LF-LC is definitely a sports-oriented vehicle, with rear passenger seats that are definitely of secondary consideration. If you want a proper sports coupe, that's what you want anyway, right? Following a traditional sportscar layout is the drivetrain: the Lexus LF-LC will run the front engine and rear-wheel drive layout that most enthusiastic drivers consider the optimum choice for control and balance when pushing on. So the Lexus LF-LC is likely to have driving dynamics as good as anything in its class. The unanswered question at this time is exactly how it what will give it the performance it is obviously crying out for. There are suggestions it could be the V8 from the IS-F, but there's also the awesome V10 from the stunning LF-A to consider - and I think we can all agree that's the sort of powerplant the LF-LC deserves. As is usual with concepts, there's no detail of what the price a "real" coupe might be beyond the quote that it will "remain within reach for premium buyers". If that's true, we can see the Lexus LF-LC at the top of a lot of people's most wanted list.
